Most wellness plans are designed for the 9-5 world; they weren’t designed for the nurses working 14hr shifts or the manufacturing worker rotating between day/swing/night shifts, not even for our first responders who put their lives on the line every day. Our health coaching is designed with the lifestyle of our shift-working professionals in mind.

What makes our coaching different?

Health coaching is usually a 30-90 day program where you meet with your coach several times monthly on a scheduled date/time. This is great if your lifestyle allows for it. Many shift-working professionals have rotating schedules that can change weekly; meeting every other Tuesday at 3 pm doesn’t work.

Our coaching doesn’t lock you in; you have the coaching options that fit your schedule. You are in total control!

Coaching sessions are purchased individually; you can purchase them as you need. Your first session will be about 40-60 mins.

How it works

  2. Fill out the intake form (this allows the call to be more streamlined)
  3. Meet with Laura and walk away with an agreed-upon actionable plan
  4. Put the plan into place
  5. Schedule follow-up sessions as needed*.

*Follow-up sessions are 20 mins and are offered at a discounted rate.

Here are some questions I am commonly asked.

Why focus on shift working professionals?
“Healthy doesn’t work for me” were the five words that changed my focus as a coach. I come from a family of farmers, skilled laborers, and nurses; I can’t tell you how many times family members would tell me they want to make healthier habits it just doesn’t fit their lifestyle. Everyone can be healthy sometimes; we must look outside the box.

Do I need to sign up for three or six months?
No, my clients are shift-working professionals, and most don’t know what their schedule will look like next week, let alone 3 or 6 months in advance. Some clients want direction and to go; others want ongoing support and accountability, so we allow clients to purchase sessions as needed.
The first session is 60 mins, and you leave with a plan that fits your needs. You can use the other sessions as check-ins, accountability, changes to a plan, or whatever you need to succeed. Additional follow-up sessions are at a discounted rate.

I don’t want to give up my beer or wine.
Me either. Seriously, my goal as a coach is not to make you hate life or give up anything you love. I think a cold beer or a glass at the end of a hard day is relaxing and even has been shown for some health benefits when used in moderation. As long as this is not negatively impacting your life and if it is something you enjoy, go for it.

I tried every diet, and nothing worked.
This is not a diet! Coaching is about working with clients, focusing on their lifestyles and goals, and creating behavioral changes that lead to better health. While I can support clients on specific diets or eating plans, working with me doesn’t come with a diet.

In my honest opinion, unless you have a serious medical issue, most diets are total bs.

I work the 3rd shift. How can we find a time to meet?
I have early morning appointments and a few evening appointments, or if there is something more specific, just let me know. I will make it work, even if it means coaching calls at 4 am. Are you going to make me work out?
First off, I don’t EVER make anyone do anything. You tell me the things you love, hate, and are non-negotiable, and we create the plan together. Second, let’s talk about movement. We aim to keep you mobile and your joints and organs healthy, not punish you for eating ice cream. So we will explore ways to build a quality movement, but no one is sending you to a gym or making you take a yoga class if you don’t want to.

My spouse/doctor/partner wants me to be healthier, and I don’t think I need to change.
I never take on a client who doesn’t want to change, doesn’t see the need, or is not ready to change, period! Feel free to send them to me, and I will tell them why forcing never works.
However, I want to leave you with one question. The change they want you to make, if you don’t make a change, what will life look like for you in 5 years?

My neighbor is a health coach and sells supplements. How are you different?
There are a lot of sales reps calling themselves health coaches that are selling supplements or workout plans.
I am a national board-certified health coach. I am board certified through NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners) same board that certifies doctors. They started certifying health coaches because it has become instrumental in patients ‘ health. As board-certified health coaches, we undergo extensive training, testing, and ongoing education. If someone claims to be a health coach and they push diet products or supplements, they are not board certified. To learn more about board-certified health coaches, visit www.NBHWC.org
